^w^ The coastal waters of Eastern Australia are among the most dangerous in the world for shallow water shark attacks.

^w^ The White Pointer, known in most of the world as the Great White Shark, is credited with more attacks in Australian waters than any other species.

^w^ Most of the beaches are protected by a system of staggered nets.  These nets do not completely prevent sharks and other fish from coming near the shore, but their use has 
decreased the number of shallow water attacks.
